    May 27, 2006
Move over Parrot, you've got some company. After the Pirates' rousing 12-5 win over the Houston Astros on Friday night at PNC Park, the Bucs unveiled a new, as-yet-unnamed mascot to join the longtime fan-favorite Pirate Parrot. • Uni Watch by Paul Lukas - "Behind the NFL Numbers"
    May 25, 2006
Uni Watch did not expect to be devoting a column to the NFL in May. But Reggie Bush, among his many other talents, has made that possible.  In case you've been under a rock: Bush wanted to wear uniform No. 5, like he did at USC and in high school. But under the NFL's numbering rules -- which we'll examine more closely in a minute -- running backs aren't allowed to wear Nos. 1 through 19. So Bush petitioned the league for a waiver, but they turned him down earlier this week, so he'll wear No. 25 instead.

  • ESPN Page 2 - "Jersey Nation: You've Run Amok"
    May 12, 2006
On an otherwise forgettable evening last March, Denver Nuggets coach George Karl donned a personalized retro basketball jersey.  During a game.  Over a long-sleeved T-shirt.  Tucked into a pair of sweatpants.  To quote noted late-20th century philosopher Keanu Reeves: Whoa.

  • Uni Watch by Paul Lukas - "Chain Gang Roster"
    May 11, 2006
When you think of Curt Schilling and uniforms, the first thing that comes to mind is probably that bloody sock. Watch Schilling during a game, though, and you'll see something subtler: After almost every pitch, he fidgets with his jersey collar. That's because Schilling wears two necklaces, ones that tend to pop out from beneath his jersey during his delivery, so he's constantly tucking them back in.  Schilling is a charter member of Uni Watch's Chain Gang -- players who insist on wearing necklaces on the field, no matter how impractical or annoying they might be. But not just any necklaced player can make the Chain Gang. Like any good GM, Uni Watch is applying tough, exacting standards. Simply wearing one of those bogus titanium thingies, for example, does not make you a Chain Ganger -- it just makes you lame-o. So titanium devotees such as Kameron Loe, Todd Jones and Brandon Webb, among dozens of others, won't make the cut.

  • Milwaukee Bucks Will Attempt to Change Luck by Changing Uniforms (National Basketball Association)
    May 5, 2005
The Bucks' playoff run - which was actually more of a slow and somewhat painful jog than a rigorous sprint - did not inspire many Milwaukeeans to hurry to their local sporting goods store in order to purchase t-shirts, hats, mini-balls and other team paraphernalia. As it turns out, that's not entirely bad.  Multiple sources have told Saucy Stadium Secrets that the Bucks will unveil new uniforms next season, ditching the purple, green and silver color palette for a green, red and white scheme that more closely resembles the threads that the team wore during the early 1980s.

  • Toronto Raptors to Get New Uniforms for 2006-2007? (National Basketball Association)
    May 2, 2006
One of the worst kept secrets in Raptorville is the fact the lads will be getting new uniforms of some sort next year.  No one's come out and said exactly what they'll look like because who wants to waste a big night of fashion coming closer to training camp, so we're just guessing here and most of the guess goes to personal preference.  How about an all-black third jersey, with red piping and white lettering? Cool? Yes.
